In many traditions, malas are made with 108 beads, a sacred number symbolizing spiritual wholeness. In Tibetan Buddhism, 108 represents the number of earthly desires to overcome. In yogic philosophy, it connects to the 108 energy lines converging at the heart chakra. Counting 108 prayers, mantras, or breaths becomes a rhythm of renewal. Similarly, Christians echo this rhythm through repeated prayer, remembering Jesus’ words: “And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases…but your Father knows what you need before you ask him” (Matthew 6:7–8).
